What HVAC Companies Should Do in the Off Season

Do the work in April and October, because you cannot build anything during a heat wave and search results take months to move.

HVAC has two busy seasons and two dead ones. The dead ones are where next summer gets decided.

Why does search work have to happen early?

A new page takes weeks to be trusted and months to reach its position. A page published on the first hot Friday of July arrives after the demand has passed.

The same page published in April is settled and ranking by the time anybody types “ac not cooling”.

This is the single biggest difference between HVAC and a trade with flat demand. Your timing is decided by the calendar, not by when you get around to it.

What should you build in the spring shoulder?

Everything about cooling, written while nobody needs it.

The pages that pay: air conditioning repair, repair against replacement, what a system size means. Then what happens during an install, and what a maintenance plan covers.

Add the question pages too. Why a unit freezes up, why one room never cools, what a refrigerant leak costs to chase.

What about the autumn shoulder?

Same job, other half of the business. Furnace repair, heat pump questions, what a no heat call involves, and the safety questions people search in October.

Carbon monoxide questions belong here and they need care. Give the plain facts. Tell people to leave the house and call the fire department if a detector sounds, and never write a diagnosis.

That page earns visits every winter for years.

What sells in the slow months themselves?

Maintenance plans, and they are the most under sold product in the trade.

A maintenance plan turns a seasonal business into a predictable one. It also puts a technician in the house twice a year, which is where replacements are found before they become emergencies.

Build one page that explains what the plan covers in plain terms, what it costs to skip it, and how to join. Then advertise it in the shoulder weeks when nobody else is bidding.

Should you switch ads off in the slow months?

Turn the emergency campaigns down, and switch the maintenance campaigns on.

Bidding on “ac repair” in November wastes money. Bidding on a tune up in October, when your competitors have gone dark, is the cheapest advertising in your year.

Pausing an account for three whole months has a cost too. It loses its footing and takes time to recover, so leave something small alive.

What about the profile in the slow season?

Update the services list before each season, not after it starts.

Your Google profile lets you list what you sell. A list that says heating in April answers the wrong search. A list nobody updates answers half the searches all year.

Reviews slow down in the dead months too, so ask harder during the busy ones. A profile with a review from three weeks ago in January is doing something most of your competition is not.

The one habit that changes the year

Put two weeks in the calendar, one in April and one in October. Treat them as build weeks the way you treat a busy week as a work week.

Businesses that do this stop having a bad October. The work published in the shoulder goes on earning through the season that follows it.

If you want somebody else doing the building while your crews work, that is our hvac marketing work.
